The primary function of this role is to create accurate patterns, to design and technical requirements and ensure that the best possible garments can be produced to given deadlines on a seasonal basis. This role requires the successful candidate to work 2 or 3 days per week on a freelance basis and will involve travel between our Nottingham and London offices on a regular basis. 

Responsibilities:

  • Make sample patterns as required to seasonal deadlines.
  • Resolve any problems that may arise with patterns when used by factories or in house sample machinists.
  • Learn to proficiently use the Assyst Computer Pattern Cutting System to create development patterns.
  • To attend fitting sessions throughout the development and pre-production stage of each season and make accurate notes relating to pattern alterations.
  • To assist with pattern grading as required.
  • Alter patterns in accordance with fitting details prior to grading keeping to grading deadlines.

Essential Experience and Skills Required: 

  • Pattern Cutting related qualification.
  • Have a minimum GCSE Grade C in Maths and English or equivalent alternative qualification.
  • Proven credible and creative pattern cutting skills.
  • Previous fittings experience, working with both Design and Technical teams.
  • Experience of working with factories in disparate locations.
  • Excellent knowledge of garment construction.

  • Good eye for detail, shape and proportion. 
  • Creative when producing patterns from design sketches and vintage garments.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Highly systematic, well organised with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Be numerate with the ability to produce accurate work.  
  • Culturally sensitive. 
  • The ability to work well in a team.
  • Able to work to set deadlines and travel between London and Nottingham as required.
  • Interest in Womenswear fashion and trends.
